Warranty & Consumer Guarantees
Warranty & Consumer Guarantees
Affordable Machinery supplies machinery, attachments and parts to customers across Australia. We aim to provide practical, fair warranty support that suits equipment used in real working conditions. This page sets out your rights under Australian Consumer Law and the additional support we provide through our voluntary parts warranty.
Our warranty operates alongside your Australian Consumer Law rights — it does not replace or reduce them.
Australian Consumer Law
Your rights as a consumer are protected by the Australian Consumer Law and cannot be excluded or limited by our warranty policy.
- to cancel your service contract with us; and
- to a refund for the unused portion, or to compensation for its reduced value.
You are also entitled to choose a refund or replacement for a major failure with goods. If a failure with the goods or a service does not amount to a major failure, you are entitled to have the failure rectified in a reasonable time. If this is not done you are entitled to a refund for the goods and to cancel the contract for the service and obtain a refund of any unused portion. You are also entitled to be compensated for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage from a failure in the goods or service.
Where Australian Consumer Law provides you with a remedy, nothing in this warranty policy affects your ability to exercise that right.
Our 12-Month / 1,000-Hour Parts Warranty
Unless otherwise stated in writing at the time of purchase, all products supplied by Affordable Machinery include a 12-month / 1,000 operating hour parts warranty (whichever occurs first) from the date of purchase as shown on your invoice.
This warranty covers defects in materials or workmanship that were present in the parts or components at the time of supply. It is a voluntary benefit provided in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
Where a product carries a different warranty period — such as a manufacturer's warranty stated at the time of sale — that period will be confirmed in writing.
What Our Warranty Covers
Our parts warranty covers defects in materials or workmanship in parts or components that:
- Were present at the time of supply
- Come to light within the warranty period
- Are reported in accordance with the claim process set out below
Our warranty is generally parts-based: where a claim is approved, it is typically resolved by supplying replacement parts. The appropriate remedy in any given situation depends on the nature of the fault, the product involved, parts availability, whether the failure is minor or major, and any applicable requirements under Australian Consumer Law.
Making a Warranty Claim
If a fault appears with your machine or equipment, please follow these steps:
- Stop using the machine if continued operation may cause further damage or create a safety risk.
- Contact Affordable Machinery in writing as soon as reasonably possible after the fault becomes apparent.
- Provide your proof of purchase — your invoice or receipt.
- Submit clear photos and video of the fault and any visible damage or wear.
- Record the machine hours at the time the fault appeared, where applicable.
- Describe the fault clearly — what happened, any sounds or symptoms you noticed, and when the problem first appeared.
- Provide your service and maintenance history where it is relevant to the claim.
We ask that warranty claims be lodged within 60 days of the fault becoming apparent, so we can resolve the matter as efficiently as possible. This request does not limit your right to make a claim within a reasonable time, having regard to the nature of the goods and the circumstances of the fault, as protected by Australian Consumer Law.
Photos, Video and Troubleshooting
For most warranty claims, we will ask you to provide clear photos and video of the fault before parts are supplied or repairs are authorised.
In some cases, we may also ask you to carry out basic checks or work through a remote troubleshooting process with us. This helps identify the issue more accurately, reduces unnecessary parts shipments and generally leads to a faster resolution.
Remote troubleshooting will not be used to unreasonably delay a legitimate warranty claim or to avoid our obligations under Australian Consumer Law.
Parts Supply and Installation
Where a warranty claim is approved, replacement parts will generally be supplied. Depending on the fault and circumstances, parts may be:
- Sent directly to you for installation — suitable for customers who are competent to carry out the repair
- Fitted by a suitably qualified mechanic engaged by the customer, subject to prior written approval
- Installed at our Derwent Park facility where the machine is returned to us
Parts are sourced from local stock where available. Where parts need to be ordered from a supplier, we will advise you of expected lead times and work to have them sourced as promptly as possible.
Labour, Freight, Transport and On-Site Support
Labour
Our warranty is generally parts-based. Labour costs are generally not included unless:
- The machine is returned to Affordable Machinery's premises at 83 Sunderland Street, Derwent Park TAS 7009; or
- Affordable Machinery agrees in writing to another arrangement before any work begins.
If you arrange for a local mechanic, repairer or technician to carry out warranty-related repairs, that work must be approved in writing by Affordable Machinery before it starts if you wish to have those costs considered under warranty. Work carried out without prior written approval will generally not be covered.
These arrangements apply to the extent permitted by Australian Consumer Law and do not affect any remedy available to you under Australian Consumer Law based on the nature of the failure.
Freight and Transport
For minor faults involving small parts that can be conveniently posted or returned, freight costs are generally the customer's responsibility, unless otherwise required by law.
Where a legitimate claim involves machinery, an attachment or components that are too large, heavy or difficult to transport by ordinary means, Affordable Machinery will bear reasonable transport costs where required by Australian Consumer Law. We will work with you to reach a practical and fair outcome in these situations.
Servicing and Maintenance Responsibilities
Customers are responsible for operating and maintaining their machinery in accordance with the operator manual and sound equipment-care practices. This includes:
- Carrying out scheduled servicing at the intervals specified in the manual
- Using the correct fluids — engine oil, hydraulic oil, coolant — appropriate for the machine
- Greasing all grease points at the intervals recommended in the manual
- Checking and adjusting track tension as required
- Responding promptly to warning lights, alarms or unusual sounds
- Stopping operation and seeking advice where continued use may cause further damage
We recommend keeping clear records of all servicing and maintenance carried out on your machinery. These records may be requested to assist in assessing a warranty claim. The absence of records does not automatically void a claim, but where lack of maintenance has caused or contributed to a fault, that fault will generally not be covered by the parts warranty.
Wear Items and Consumables
Wear items and consumables are generally not covered by the parts warranty because they are expected to wear progressively during normal operation. However, where a wear item fails prematurely due to a manufacturing defect — rather than ordinary use — it may be assessed under the warranty.
Wear items and consumables include, but are not limited to:
Engine oil, hydraulic oil, coolant, fuel, grease, filters
Seals, O-rings, wiper seals, hoses, hose fittings, hydraulic lines
Bucket teeth, cutting edges, side cutters, rubber tracks, steel track components, track pads, sprockets, rollers, idlers, pins, bushes, belts, chains
Batteries, fuses, relays, circuit breakers, lamps, LED lights
Mirrors, glass, cab seals, rubber mounts, anti-vibration pads, decals, paint, surface finish, grease nipples and grease fittings
What the Warranty Does Not Cover
The following are generally not covered by the Affordable Machinery parts warranty:
- Normal wear and tear
- Consumable items
- Misuse or incorrect operation
- Neglect or lack of maintenance
- Use of incorrect or unsuitable fluids or lubricants
- Overloading beyond the machine's rated capacity
- Operation outside the machine's intended design or rated limits
- Continuing to operate the machine after a fault or warning has appeared
- Accidental or impact damage
- Water ingress or flood damage
- Fire damage
- Corrosion, contamination or dust ingress
- Environmental damage
- Unauthorised repairs or modifications
- Damage caused by incompatible third-party attachments or accessories
- Transport damage occurring after delivery or collection by the customer
- Cosmetic damage or deterioration that does not affect the function of the machine
- Work carried out without prior written approval from Affordable Machinery
- Costs not agreed in writing before being incurred
All of the above exclusions are subject to Australian Consumer Law and apply only to the extent permitted by law. Where Australian Consumer Law provides a remedy, these exclusions will not prevent you from accessing it.
Operator Misuse, Incorrect Operation and Unauthorised Repairs
Machinery must be operated by a competent person who is familiar with the controls, the operator manual, the machine's rated capacity and specifications, and safe operating practices relevant to the equipment.
Damage resulting from operator error, overloading, incorrect use, or operation of the machine outside its intended purpose or design limits is not covered by the parts warranty.
Where unauthorised modifications or repairs have been carried out on a machine, warranty coverage is affected only in relation to the component or fault where that modification or repair caused or contributed to the problem. An unrelated modification to one part of a machine does not affect warranty coverage for a separate, unconnected fault on a different component.
Third-Party Attachments and Accessories
Where damage to a machine has been caused or contributed to by a third-party attachment, accessory or implement, that damage is generally not covered by the warranty.
This exclusion applies where the attachment or accessory is incompatible with the machine or has been operated outside the machine's rated specifications. Common areas of incompatibility include:
- Hitch dimensions, pin centres or ear widths that do not match the machine
- Pin sizes that fall outside the machine's rated specifications
- Hydraulic flow or pressure requirements that exceed the machine's hydraulic capacity
- Operating weight or mechanical load that exceeds the machine's rated limits
This exclusion applies only where the third-party item caused or contributed to the fault claimed. It does not affect coverage for unrelated faults.
Diagnostic, Inspection and Non-Warranty Faults
Where an inspection, technical assessment or diagnostic process is arranged — whether carried out by Affordable Machinery or by an authorised technician or mechanic — and no manufacturing defect or warranty-covered fault is identified, or where the fault is found to result from operator misuse, inadequate maintenance or another cause not covered by the warranty, the customer may be responsible for reasonable diagnostic, inspection, travel or callout costs.
Customers will be informed of this possibility before any inspection, callout or assessment is arranged. Affordable Machinery will be transparent about likely costs before any such process is initiated.
This clause is not intended to discourage customers from making genuine warranty claims or from exercising their rights under Australian Consumer Law.
Downtime, Hire Costs and Consequential Loss
To the extent permitted by law, Affordable Machinery is not responsible under this warranty for downtime, loss of income, loss of productivity, hire of replacement equipment, business interruption or other indirect or consequential losses, unless such loss was reasonably foreseeable as a result of a failure to comply with a guarantee under Australian Consumer Law.
This does not limit any rights you may have under Australian Consumer Law.
Batteries, Paint and Cosmetic Items
Batteries
Batteries are consumable items. The parts warranty does not cover normal capacity loss over time, discharge resulting from incorrect storage or infrequent use, damage from incorrect charging, or failure caused by neglect or misuse. Faults that are present at the time of delivery or that arise from a manufacturing defect will be assessed under Australian Consumer Law.
Paint and Cosmetic Condition
Normal paint wear, surface marks, minor chips, scratches, fading, decal deterioration and general cosmetic changes resulting from ordinary machinery use and outdoor exposure are not covered by the parts warranty. Where a cosmetic issue arises from a genuine manufacturing defect or gives rise to a remedy under Australian Consumer Law, that will be assessed on its merits.
Simple Dispute Resolution
If you disagree with a warranty decision, we encourage you to contact us in writing and provide any additional information or context relevant to your claim. We will review any further information in good faith and respond within a reasonable time.
If the matter remains unresolved, we are open to discussing it further or, where appropriate, considering mediation as a means of reaching a fair outcome.
Nothing in this process limits any rights you may have under Australian Consumer Law, including the right to seek a remedy through the relevant consumer tribunal or court.
